We locate us in a monotone autumn day in England, London. A light breeze was flowing through the branches of the oak trees, making the leaves shiver. But it was a soft breeze. It was a soft rustle through the leaves, almost like nature's murmuring.
Sitting on a bench, right beneath it, was a young man. He had hair black as the night; and eyes blue as the reflection of a shimmering lake in the afternoon. He had his earphones in, and while sat crossed-legged, he was solving a sudoku. He looked very peaceful, scribbling numbers down on his paper and occasionally drawing moustaches on the faces of people in the advertisements. A moustache here, top hat there.
Boom you look like Charlie Chaplin.
Soft footsteps were heard on the fallen leaves, making the lovely sound of crumbling paper. The footsteps stopped at the end of the bench, and then there was a boy sitting next to him. He his hair was chestnut-brown, just the same shade as the trees leaves. His eyes where a more sort of crisp, ebony brown.
He carried a rather heavy looking bag in his shoulders, and dropped it on the bench.
The vibrations it made on the bench came as a surprise to the sudoku-solving master. His shoulders raised, showing a frightened expression.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," the chestnut haired boy said.
The man looked at him, and lowered his shoulders. He then went back to his sudokus.
The other man sat down and unzipped his bag, and pulled out some maths homework with complicated fractions on them.
'Oh shit,' he thought to himself, 'I forgot to bring a pen. Oh he has one. Maybe I can use it, I've only got to do these 2.'
He leaned a bit closer to the stranger. "Um, excuse me, can I borrow your pen for a brief moment? Please?" He politely asked.
The man frowned his eyebrows in confusion.
"Oh I'm Dan by the way," he added. His expression was indifferent. 'Oh, he has his earphones in. He can't hear me,' he thought. Dan moved his hands on the paper, trying to mimic the motion as if he was writing.
The stranger smiled and gave him the pen. "I appreciate it, really," he said before he wrote some confusing numbers and symbols down. He handed the pen back, and felt too awkward to start a conversation as him, so he decided to just read a book.
The stranger looked over at him,and said "That's a good one. I loved reading it."
Dan looked confused for a moment, but then understood what he meant. "I have to read it for an assignment," Dan replied.
The stranger pointed at his ears and shook his head.
"Oh if you can't hear me then I've got some sticky notes we can use to communicate." The ebony-eyed man unzipped the front of his bag and revealed a yellow block of sticky notes. While he was unzipping the front, he found a black pen. He wrote 'hii' on the block, stuck it on the sudokus and placed the block next to the stranger.
He looked down, and saw the block of notes. He took a note, and wrote something on it, and stuck it on Dan's book.
'I thought you didn't had a pen', it said.
'I found one now' he wrote back.
'I didn't quite catch your name' he wrote.
'It's Dan. And yours?'
'It's Phil.Written with Ph,pronounced with F'
'Mine's just Dan, D-A-N'
'So that book you're reading, do you like it?'
'Oh absolutely, but I won't let my friends know that I like this kind of books'
'Why not? Afraid they'll think you have a feminine side and then think you're gay?'
'No it's not that. I don't want to come over as a softie,I'm a tough guy!'
'Sure, Mr.muscles. Prove it! Do 20 sit ups!'
Dan could not refuse a challenge even if he tried his best.
He got on his arms and knees, and did 20 push-ups, straight away.
He wrote 'Told you so' on a note and stuck it to his face, and sat down on the bench, a little closer to Phil.
Phil removed the note of his face and read it, and smiled.
'You indeed are strong! Do you work out?'
No,but the homework is a kind of work out, it makes me sweat'
'Hahaha lol'
'So what are you listening to?'
'It's a special song'
'Can I hear it?'
'I prefer not to, I don't want to stop listening to it'
'Oh okay'
'It's about to get late. I should go home'
'Yeah me too'
'Tomorrow, same place, same time?'
'Alright'

Phil stood up and shook the leaves that had fallen onto his shoulders off. Dan poured his belongings back in his bag, and walked away. He turned around, and waved at Phil.
He gently waved back.
Dan turned around, to come into abrupt contact with a tree. He turned around, and saw a smile curling up Phil's face. Dan covered his bleeding nose, and left.
~
Dan was sitting on the familiar bench, nervously looking at his watch over and over again. He finally saw Phil in the distance, running towards him.
He pasted a note on his face, and sat down. He pulled out his newspaper, but not the page with sudokus, but the one with crossword-puzzles. Dan tore of the note, and read it.
'Morning Mr.muscles!'
'You're late '
Phil playfully hit Dan's arm.
'I'm still laughing at yesterday'
'I got a nose bleed!'
'Oh I didn't know :,('
'It's okay,I didn't get hurt very much.'
'So do you have a job?'
'I don't have a real job, but I'm a part-time blogger. I write about my life, the books I read, politics, basically everything around me. It's like my brain, but on the Internet'
'Cool,what's the site?'
'Justyouraveragetealover.blogspot.com'
'Really? Just your average tea lover?'
'Hey don't judge! You run into trees!'
'NOSE BLEED'
'Oh man up'
'Other subject, I see you have a don't have your sudokus? You were quite good at them'
'I liked doing them. But they are too easy, so I'm switching to crossword puzzles. 4 letters, Dutch river?'
'Too easy. Rijn'
'Thanks'
Dan dropped his pen, and bent down to pick it up. While he was bending down, his sleeve moved up, exposing his scars. Embarrassed he pulled his sleeve down, and picked his pen up.
'Don't think I didn't see them'
'Well I don't want you to see them'
'But why are they there?'
'Because'
'Because what?'
'I don't want to talk about it'
'You have to'
'Why?'
'Because you owe me. I'm spilling my time onto you and I don't want to waste it'
'…you've got a good point'
'So tell me'
'My mother got re-married'
'And is he a bad man?'
'No. But his son is. My step-brother hits me'
'That's horrible! And don't your parents do anything about it?'
'I tried telling them, but that just added fuel to the fire'
'And why do you cut?'
'HE MAKES ME FEEL USELESS,OKAY? NOT ONLY ONLY HIM, The people at school are the same. I have no one. I need a friend'
'I can try to be your friend'
'I'm insane. Paranoia. When people whisper behind my back, of course it's about me, that's what my brain tells me'
'No…'
'I'm unattractive, ugly, lazy, dumb, and lonely person. The world would be better of without me. I just don't want to live any more'
'You shouldn't be saying that'
'It's the truth. I've been on the edge of life, I only got back because my mother would be devastated if her only son killed herself'
'Is that the only thing that keeps you alive?'
'Yep. Want to die, but I can't because of my mum'
'Is that also why you cut?'
'Yes'
'You need to stop your self-harm'
'Why'
'Just stop. Try not to cut yourself. For as long as you can. A month, a week…just try to not cut when life gets you down'
'Why would I'
'Everything that happens now, no matter how bad, is temporary. It will go away, and time will heal wounds. If you keep cutting, you're preventing time from healing you. You can't heal a wound that has been cut open. It might sound cliché, but it does get better. You just wait.'
'Why are you like this to me?'
'What do you mean?'
'You've been kinder to me than anybody in my whole life. I barely know you.'
'You know me now. Phil. The guy from the park that solves sudokus and crossword-puzzles. Black hair and blue eyes.'
'I guess I know you now'
'Do you want to listen to my song?'
'Would you let me?'
'Yes '

Phil slowly reached for his earphones and handed them to Dan.
He gratefully accepted them, and pressed them against his ears.
"That's weird. I don't hear anything."
Phil made some signs with his hands which involved pointing and making fists. After a minute, Dan understood that Phil was deaf.
Dan took a note, scribbled something down, and stuck it to Phil's crosswordpuzzle. Phil tore it off, smiled, and pulled him in for a hug.
The note read:
'You're still beautiful'
